Hi, my name is Joshua Eric Forrest, and I am a CERENE Undergraduate Research Assistant. I’m originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, but currently live in the Ahupua’a o Hau’ula, in the Moku o Ko‘olauloa (Windward District), on the Mokupuni o O’ahu, within Ko’olauloa Neighborhood Board # 28. I am studying history at Kapi’olani Community College and plan to eventually become an archaeologist. I am passionate about civil rights for all races, ethnicities, social classes, and genders. I am interested in environmental justice and learning more about my heritage. I will be working closely with the Hauʻula Community Association and helping to map out the site of a future resilience hub, the first of its kind in the state. I will also help to trailblaze what will be a walking path around the perimeter, clear the site, and take a census of all plants on the property to see what is native or food-bearing and what is invasive.
