Equity is “the consistent and systematic fair, just, and impartial treatment of all individuals, including individuals:
- who belong to underserved communities of color,
- who belong to communities that may face discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity (including members of the
- LGBTQ+ community);
- with disabilities;
- who may face discrimination based on their religion, national origin;
- with Limited English Proficiency, and
- who live in rural areas that have been systematically denied a full opportunity to participate in aspects of economic, social, and civic life.”
In 2021, FEMA established an Equity Enterprise Steering Group (ESG) which recently developed the Equity Principle for their work in natural disasters. At CERENE we strive to support this principle in all that we do to support resilience planning and disaster preparedness in an equitable and accessible way.
“Equity Principle: Ensuring all people are helped before, during and after disasters, based on their specific needs.“
