‘Āina Resilient Community Leaders Program Expectations
Stipend amounts vary from 1K to up to 2K based on time commitments and final project scope
Expected time commitment is 2-3 hours per week
The ʻĀina RCL NREM / Biocultural Forest Restoration Program prepares students to help manage restoration sites, coordinate volunteers, and communicate with community partners within the important context of supporting ongoing everyday community resilience and emergency preparedness during disruptions. Students also support citizen science, cultural practices, and science communication through GIS Story Maps.
ʻĀina Resilience Corps Leaders are expected to complete the following during the fall semester:
- Meet or connect with their community partner.
- Learn CERENE’s volunteer management practices and contribute to volunteer coordination.
- Help coordinate four large community workdays with Dr. Miku’s support.
- Interview a local site knowledge holder, family member, or community partner.
- Make light updates to species identification basemaps during community workdays.
- Contribute to ongoing microclimate characterization during community workdays.
- Contribute to a site ArcGIS Story Map and seek feedback from a community or family partner.
- Present the work at SURF and invite community partners and resilience hub members.
Students taking SCI 295 will complete additional training in ethnography or autoethnography and participatory GIS. Their work will place greater emphasis on data collection alongside leadership and volunteer coordination.
