Cross-Generational : Resilient Community Leaders Program Expectations
Stipend amounts are up to 1K based on time commitments and final project scope
Expected time commitment is 2-3 hours per week
X-GEN (also pronounced Cross-Gen, for Cross Generational) is a one-year program that brings students and kūpuna together to strengthen community resilience across generations. Students gather stories about resilience and preparedness, share what they learn through a story map, and work with kūpuna mentors to design a community action project that builds social connection or disaster preparedness. In Fall, students develop a “Wisdom Archive” of gathered stories of resilience. In Spring Semester, students design and carry out a community action project with their kūpuna mentors. Stipends are up to $1,000 per semester.
X-GEN Resilience Corps Leaders are expected to:
Fall 2026: Origin Story
- Meet or connect with a kūpuna mentor.
- Complete three interviews: one with a family member, one with a climate champion, and one with a resilience hub member.
- Contribute to a story map that brings the interviews together.
- Identify themes from the stories that could guide a spring action project
- Share the fall work at the X-GEN Kūpuna Picnic Gathering.
- Optional: Present at SURF.
Spring 2027: X-GEN Action
- Develop a short project proposal with a kūpuna mentor. Include the project idea, a resilience hub partner if identified, and a budget if needed.
- Design and carry out an action project that strengthens social cohesion or disaster preparedness.
- Celebrate the work with a community picnic.
Throughout the program, students are expected to stay engaged with their kūpuna mentors and document their work and accomplishments.
